Master Language Teacher Program

Description:  The Master Language Teacher Program is a long-term apprenticeship designed to help strong teachers become leaders in their professional community. Participants in this program receive assistance in developing research projects for publication or professional presentation, developing and implementing curricula, managing educational programs, creating materials, and implementing programs of their own. It is open only to teachers who have already demonstrated a high level of professional ability and integrity.

Time: Usually three years, including…

  1. 360 hours as lead teacher
  2. 5-10 hours of teaching in the presence of a mentor
  3. 10-15 hours of personal instruction and assessment by a mentor
  4. 160 hors of readings and research

Prerequisites:

1.      completion of the Professional Language course

2.      recommendation by the course teachers and mentors

3.      teaching one year as lead teacher in a course at the Mentor level.

4.      recommendation from colleagues

5.      recommendation from students

6.      demonstrate advanced proficiency in oral or written skills in the target language

7.      demonstrate advanced competence in three of the following areas:

a.     curriculum development

b.     materials development

c.      assessment, teacher-training

d.     content-based or special-purpose language

e.     program administration

f.       research
